Back in the fall of 2012 I really didn’t have much of a studio space in my home. Whenever I wanted to use my gear, I would have to spend a lot of time unboxing and setting up before even sitting down at a piano keyboard or a computer. As a result, I found myself often sitting in my living room with my nylon guitar, working out basic melodies and chord sequences for later development. “Dust Mistletoe” was written this way, as was most of “Moonlit Door”.
Also like “Dust Mistletoe” this was a composition mainly recorded with sounds fromtheKorg M50 synth workstation, notably the Korg’s nylon guitar patch paired with the woodwinds. That type of sound combination almost lends itself to something eerie, and all it took was adding a bit of echoed thumping and some Mellotron chords to make the piece a bit spooky. I almost used the raw materials for this piece while I was recording the Nail album in 2014. I had a track called “Vespers” that I was working on for Nail which used some of what you hear now in this song. Ultimately, I scrapped “Vespers” and took the end section and created the piece “Foie Gras” which was released on my Angels in Black and White EP (isotherme.bandcamp.com/album/angels-in-black-and-white). So “I Might Have Dreamt of a Moonlit Door” has had a long history of false starts of sorts, but I’m happy I’m including it here as it lived originally.

This EP was created using guitar, delay pedals and a looper pedal. It has an excellent experimental feel with great use of delay, layered sounds and feedback and Roofhare gets a huge range of sounds from the guitar. I really like the development of rhythmic sounds and interplay between the different delay effects which gives an ambience with a darker edge and great tension at times. Andrulian
