An early “ghost ambient” piece about memories of an amorous encounter by candlelight from my college days (her name was not Gloria). I chose the name Gloria, inspired by a song called “Gloria’s Step” from the famous Bill Evans Trio album Sunday at the Village Vanguard. Also, to me, the name Gloria sounded like a traditional Catholic girl’s name, and my cohort in this particular encounter had a penchant for saying the rosary each night before going to bed—or before engaging in some other night-time activity (!). I almost removed the synthesized heavy breathing I originally recorded in the track in order to clean it up for this album’s release. It’s a bit campy, admittedly, but I decided to leave it in. What the fuck. Yes.
This track makes gratuitous use of Mellotron sounds, too (albeit unauthentic) and hand-spliced sound effects. I also used a creepy electronic glockenspiel sound from Propellerhead’s Thor synthesizer, triggered from my iPad.
My original recording of Gloria=Enigma was a lot slower. I thought it dragged a bit, so I increased the tempo during the remix for this album.

This EP was created using guitar, delay pedals and a looper pedal. It has an excellent experimental feel with great use of delay, layered sounds and feedback and Roofhare gets a huge range of sounds from the guitar. I really like the development of rhythmic sounds and interplay between the different delay effects which gives an ambience with a darker edge and great tension at times. Andrulian
